Rivershore Golf Links, host of the 1999 Canadian Men's Amateur Championship, and co-host of the Canadian Tour Qualifying School, has both the pedigree and the resume of a champion.
Designed by master architect Robert Trent Jones Senior, Rivershore Golf Links presents an exciting and fair challenge for golfers of all levels. It can be played as short as a modest 5400 yards or as long as a daunting 7007 from its back tees. <
You will have plenty of opportunity to hit your driver on this course but you will need a solid short-iron game to avoid the sixty sand traps and numerous water hazards that guard the greens.
To do well at this course though you will need to conquer Rivershore Golf Links’ principal defense: The Thompson River Valley winds.
If the winds are down then this course can be had. If the breeze is blowing, club-selection takes on a whole new meaning. With a tailwind, reaching greens three hundred yards away becomes very attainable. Into the wind, it is not unheard of to leave the ball short of a par three with a three wood!
It is possible to play your game under the wind as most of the greens at Rivershore have unguarded avenues that allow golfers to play a bump-and-run to the green. Playing this variety of golf at Rivershore will take precision though. The avenues to play this shot are often no wider than fifteen feet!
With some of the most beautifully maintained fairways in the province and a superb clubhouse to relax in after the round, Rivershore is definitely a great addition to any Kamloops Golf Vacation. |
