Sun Rivers Golf Resort was named the “Best new course for 2003 in Western Canada” by Golf Digest Magazine. Since then it has only gotten better with age.
Sun Rivers Golf Resort’s immaculately maintained bent grass fairways look like a river of green in an ocean of sage brush. The stark contrast between desert and green gives you the feeling of being at one of the famous desert tracks in Scottsdale. The warm friendly welcome, easy going pace and great value is unmistakably Kamloops.
Set high above Kamloops in the natural sage, and rolling hills of the Thompson River Valley, this Graham Cooke design affords golfers the perfect blend of great golf and wonderful scenery. One need look no further than Sun Rivers’ opening hole to get a flavour for their brand of golf.
Sage brush hills line the entire length of the right side of the fairway and a sweeping view of downtown Kamloops frames the entire length of the left side of the fairway. Blocking out the views and focusing on the tee task at hand becomes the first and toughest part of this hole. At 580 yards from the back tees this slight dogleg-right par five seems unreachable in two. Factor in the elevation, the dry Kamloops air and the fact that the fairway slopes gently downhill all the way from tee to green and you may find yourself pleasantly surprised by the possibilities. A solid drive up the left centre with a little bit of a fade will set you up perfectly for your next shot. From there it is the debate to lay-up or go for the three-tiered green in two.
It is this great brand of golf in an unforgettable setting that makes Sun Rivers Golf Resort such a great golf vacation destination. Whether you have time for only one round or you are staying for the weekend, we highly recommend this great “desert” golf course. Sun Rivers Golf Resort is definitely a Kamloops ‘must play’.
