 Built in 1978, Flamingos was the very first course in Puerto Vallarta and while it does not present the grandiose nature and atmosphere of some of its newer competitors it is a still a fun round of golf and a great, affordable addition to any Puerto Vallarta Golf Safari.
Surrounded by lush tropical vegetation Flamingos was built to use the natural surroundings to its advantage – rather than conquer it. The result is a course that gives golfers the experience of playing in a beautiful jungle setting – a feeling amplified by the 100 bird species as well as crocodiles, turtles, hares, raccoons, and armadillos that inhabit the surrounding lands.
A great example of the Flamingos experience is the 391-yard, par four twelfth hole. Lined by palm trees on both sides and crossing both water and natural marsh land, this hole requires golfers to hit their drives up the right centre of the fairway to get themselves in good position to attack the pin on this dogleg left. Shots that get pushed too far right by the wind or draw too much to the left will end-up under the trees or in the marsh land and dash any hope of a birdie. For your second shot you will have to carry water one more time and avoid the three bunkers that surround this otherwise receptive and sizeable green. Go with the contours of the land on this hole and you are sure to do well. Try and get too creative and the rugged natural hazards of Flamingos may end up keeping your ball for a souvenir.
