One of the few Jack Nicklaus signature courses in the world Punta Mita is everything you could ever want from a tropical golf course. It takes you through dense jungle and alongside ivory white beaches and shimmering blue waters. Your game will be tested not only by your ability to stay out of the lush undergrowth and the numerous bunkers, but also with your ability to handle the varying wind that is almost always blowing off the open Pacific.
While every hole at Punta Mita is an experience unto itself, there is no doubt that the hole you will remember for a lifetime is the par 3, third hole. At 194 yards from the back tees the hole is plenty long for a par three. Add to that fact that is a carry over the mother-of-all water hazards, The Pacific Ocean, to an island green and you will understand why Golf Digest Magazine instantly labelled this hole as one of the best par-threes in the world. There is no mystery to how to play the hole: Take plenty of club. Take aim at the widest part of the green and hit it solidly! Whether you make it to the green or come up short there is a drop zone on the island so scores will never be too inflated. Simply grab your putter and hop a ride to the island on the amphibious golf cart! Drain your putt for par or better and take a quick snap-shot because no one will ever believe you when you tell them about this back home! If the wind is really up or you don’t like the sounds of the hole there is an alternate green on terra firma that you can choose to play toward instead. But where’s the fun in that? An island green; hitting into the Pacific Ocean; riding an amphibious golf cart; wearing a grin so big it  looks like you slept with a coat hanger in your mouth; Now that’s fun! Nicknamed “The Tail of the Whale” get par or better on this par-three gem and you will have a whale of a tale to tell for years to come!
