Playing to almost 7200 yards with a slope rating of 153 from the tips, Silvertip Golf Resort often intimidates golfers before they ever get to the first tee. After the first few holes though, they quickly realize that the course is playable for golfers of all levels. While you may find yourself with some tough downhill or side hill lies it is not to the point of excess and certainly not out of the norm for mountain golf. As course architect Les Furber put it “Everything may appear big and bold, but it plays easier than it looks”. The biggest challenge you will face at Silvertip Golf Resort may lie more in your ability to focus than in your ability to get around the course.
A perfect example of this Silvertip brand of golf is the signature ninth hole. Featuring over one-hundred feet of elevation change this par-four plays shorter than its 433 yards. Launch a drive to the left side of the right-hand fairway bunker and your ball will feed beautifully down toward the hole. From there it is a short iron, downhill shot to a relatively undefended three-tiered green. The hole itself is fairly forgiving but the scenery is truly unforgettable. Your tee shot is framed by the silhouette of soaring mountain peaks and the entire left side of the fairway is guarded by a steep embankment and a turquoise mountain lake. Block out all that scenery long enough to make two good swings and you will have solved the biggest challenge at Silvertip Golf Resort.
