The Valley Course at Bear Mountain Resort is a kinder, gentler version of the more daunting and demanding Mountain Course. The course still offers fantastic views and a stunning setting but the wider fairways and more forgiving approaches on the Valley course mean that the intimidation factor off the tee is turned way down. Higher handicappers will enjoy the opportunity to wear out their driver without decimating their golfing ego and lower handicappers will enjoy the short game precision that the Valley course's slick and undulating greens demand.
A perfect example of the Valley course's brand of golf is the par-four third hole (pictured right). At 341 yards from the Grizzly tees this short par-four becomes even shorter when you factor in the tee-to-green vertical drop of over 150 feet. Shorter hitters can swing-away with a three-wood or driver while, longer hitters can wrestle with the risk / reward option of going for the green. A carry up the left side of just over 260 yards will land your ball on the down slope of a ridge and have it feed down to the green. A shot that carries the ridge but is pushed right of centre will leave you in the collection area below the hole. A sand wedge flop shot will get you the dance floor and putting for birdie.
This design approach of rewarding golfers for good shots while not bludgeoning them for imperfect shots is what makes a round on the Valley Course at Bear Mountain so enjoyable.
