Olympic View Golf Club has been a perennial favourite of golfers for over ten years. It is no wonder. With one of the best practice facilities in Western Canada, a fantastic clubhouse and pro-shop and a unforgettable Bill Robinson designed championship track that features two greenside waterfalls, twelve lakes and immaculately maintained grounds, you just have to play it once to add Olympic View to your must-play-again list.
Don’t be fooled by the course’s beauty though; this is a true shot maker’s course and a test of the game for golfers of all levels. No two holes are quite the same at Olympic View but each one is as memorable as the last.
One of Olympic View’s most distinctive holes is its phenomenal finishing hole. With three distinct changes in elevations this 515 yard par five becomes anything but a routine hole. Moderate hitters would be well advised to play conservatively here and plan their strategy around their favourite approach-shot yardage. Big hitters can gamble a bit though. A solid 240 yard drive up the left centre of the fairway will land on the down slope of one of the elevation changes and roll to the perfect landing area almost 300 yards off the tee and 215 yards short of the green. From there it’s a controlled iron or fairway wood to the three tiered, elevated green in front of the clubhouse. Birdie is a great score here back but eagle is legendary. See if you can match what Tiger Woods did when he played Olympic View Golf Club in 1994: Go Driver, five-iron, and chip-in for eagle – Hey we can all dream!
Olympic View is a beautiful golfing oasis just twenty-five minutes from downtown Victoria. Add it your Victoria Golf Vacation and find out for yourself why golfers continue to return year after year. |
